Advice wanted

One question I get regularly is what daffodils will grow in Sydney.  Now in the CBD would be a challenge and most would be more like annuals as the temperatures rarely fall below 10 degrees Celsius.  But out in the western winter temperatures are regularly around 3 or 4 degrees while summer is very hot (40 degrees plus)  Rain happens when it happens ie no distinct wet or dry season.

I am sure some of you cope with not dissimilar climatic conditions but I am not really sure which areas best reflect the western Sydney climate so not really sure what advice to draw on.

I have my own thoughts on what might grow best but your experience and views would be most welcome

  1. Hi Graeme,

You probably know that Henry Selkirk bred daffodils at Killara. Many div 8’s should do well and probably 10’s. Linda and Sara Van Beck’s “Daffodils in Florida, A Field Guide to the Coastal South” is bound to be a useful resource.
