On Friday I had the privilege of judging the local Blenheim show. There weren’t a huge number of entries but there was some good quality on display. I’ve included pictures of the best below. Champion was John Hunter’s ‘Aspire’ (left in picture), exhibited by Welly & Jude Munro. This was an absolutely faultless flower that stood out. Amateur champion was a very good ‘Pacific Glow’ (on the right) exhibited by Leighton Spence. There were several good ‘Pacific Glow’ on display, a very good variety.
Another that caught my eye was ‘Lemon Smoothie’, raised by G&F Miller and exhibited by stalwarts Rex & Barbara Bright.
Finally there was a large smooth ‘Truculent’, also exhibited by the Munros.
A couple from in the garden…
Zilch, another Hunter variety that produces huge smooth flowers even with my neglect.
A 3YY seedling from New Penny x Flashdance.
Maybe just a hint of orange in there…
Apologies for picture quality from my old phone.
Love ‘Lemon Smoothie’ and ‘Zilch’ with their rolled cups!
Congratulations Welly and Jude! ‘Aspire’ is a beauty and was the big winner last year in both Nationals as Champion Bloom in the North Island and Reserve Champion in the South Island.
We appreciated John Hunter donating a bulb of ‘Aspire’ to the ADS Spring Bulb Auction.
Thank you for sharing Lachlan.
