N. Watereri, watieri, wateri ?

What is the correct terminology for this N. rupicola sub species?

I order some bulbs under the name of wateri.  I understand they will have to have protection in my Zone 5 b growing conditions, Thought I just may give some tender daffodils a try.

  1. Most often found in the literature the name of* N. vatieri or N. rupicola
    var. watieri.*

  2. Hi, Joe!

Daffseek says N. rupicola subsp. watieri, so I go with that on entry cards and so forth if there is room, and if there isn’t, I use N. r. ssp watieri, which I believe means the same thing.

    N. r. ssp. watieri is hardy here in Indy with no extra protection. I have found it to be happiest in free draining woodsy soil with lots of worms,  and in dappled shade (I have it out in the woods).  It might need a little protection there in Penna, but I know it will appreciate your cooler summers.

  3. Perhaps I did not understand the question, but it seems to me that the
question was about the correct name of the plant but not about its
taxonomic status. Especially because subspeсies or variety – is a opinion
of botanist that other botanist may be reduced or increased.

  4. Oleg, you are right, and I’m guessing it was simply the spelling he was asking about.
