Hi Everyone

The South Island National Show was held in Te Anau a small town in Fiordland (in the deep south of the South Island) with a big reputation for staging Spring flower shows and this year the combined National and the Te Anau spring show saw approximately 4000 blooms staged in two adjacent halls. It was a wonderful weekend with beautiful flowers and great southern hospitality enjoyed by all.

The champion bloom a 1W-W was the aptly named Mt Tutoko, after the highest mountain in Fiordland. This flower was raised by Malcolm Wheeler and exhibited by Malcolm and Rozanne.  It was also awarded a Certificate of Merit at this show which calls for five stems to be presented , and proven its worth as an exhibition flower. The cultivar must have been awarded at least three premier bloom awards at National Shows.

The reserve champion bloom was Kiwi Happy Prince (2W-YYR), the ever reliable Spud Brogden variety and exhibited by Mike Smith.

    Hi All,

Both flowers were lovely, a credit to both their exhibitors and their raisers. I can only agree with what Trevor said, it was a most enjoyable weekend, the hospitality was superb and the standard of the flowers was excellent.

Congratulations Malcolm and Rozanne , to win with your own seedling in your old home area is an extra achievement .And those flower numbers – 4000 blooms across both shows – a real bonus to all the keen growers in the area . That must surely be the largest combined show in N Z . Very pleased I wasn’t organising the vases .! ! . Well done all .
