2017 Murphys Show – Standard Collection Awards

In this post we cover the standard collections that won ADS awards. If an award is not mentioned, it means there were no entries in the class for that award.

Historic daffodils are cultivars registered before 1940. Flowers in the winning collection are:
Back: ‘Chinita’ 8Y-YYR (1922), ‘Sweetness’ 7Y-Y (1939), ‘Silver Chimes’ 8W-W (1914);
Front: ‘Avalanche’ 8W-Y (1906), ‘Aspasia’ 8W-Y (1908).
At least two of these seem to be misidentified, but the decision of the judges is final.

Intermediates typically measure between 50 and 80 millimeters in diameter. The flowers in the winning collection are:
Back: ‘Chindi’ 2Y-WPP, 2-8-17 1Y-Y;
Front: 2-6-17 3WWG-G, 2-9-17 7W-P, 2-7-17 3G-GYO.

The Red-White-Blue Ribbon is for the best collection of 5 American originated standard daffodils. Flowers in the winning collection are:
Back: ‘Kerry’s Favorite’ 8Y-O (Welch), ‘Golden Days’ 8Y-O (Oregon Bulb Farm);
Front: ‘Lackawanna’ 2Y-Y (Bender), Welch 17-01-03 (Avalanche seedling), 8W-Y, ‘National Treasure’ 2Y-Y (Havens).

The Purple Ribbon is for the best collection of five standard daffodils in the show. The winning collection was the red/orange cup collection. Flowers in the winning collection are:
Back: ‘Matador’ 8Y-GOO, ‘Banker’ 2Y-O, ‘Motmot’ 8Y-R;
Front: ‘Ruddy Rascals’ 2Y-R, ‘Marion Pearce’ 11aY-YYO.

The class for the Bozievich Ribbon calls for 12 standard daffodils from at least four Royal Horitcultural Society divisions. The winning collection contains:
Top row: ‘Royal Marine’ 2W-YOO, ‘Highgrove’ 1YYWE-WYY, ‘Goyt Valley’ 4Y-O, ‘Ice Emerald’ 3W-GWW;
Middle row: ‘Nonchalant’ 3Y-GYY, ‘Oh Wow’ 3W-P, ‘Ruddy Duck’ 2O-O, ‘Clouded Yellow’ 2YYW-Y;
Bottom row: ‘The Foxtrott’ 6W-P, ‘Golden Flute’ 2Y-Y, ‘Laurelbank’ 2W-Y, ‘Motmot’ 8Y-R.

The class for the Havens Ribbon calls for 12 standard daffodils from at least three of RHS Divisions 5 though 10. Flowers in the winning collection are:
Top row: ‘Pima’ 8Y-Y, 2-42-17 8W-Y, 2-43-17 8W-Y, ‘Willie Mae’ 8Y-O;
Middle row: ‘Stratosphere’ 7Y-O, ‘Golden Echo’ 7WWY-Y, ‘Koshare’ 8W-Y, ‘Quail’ 7Y-Y;
Bottom row: 2-45-17 9W-GYR, ‘Ice Wings’ 5W-W, 2-143-17 7W-P, ‘Starlet’ 9W-GYO.

The class for the Throckmorton Ribbon calls for 15 standard daffodils with 15 different RHS classifications. A classification is the division number plus the color code. Flowers in the winning collection are:
Top row: ‘Ice Emerald’ 3W-GWW, ‘Cameo Joy’ 2Y-R, ‘Clouded Yellow’ 2YYW-Y, ‘Crowndale’ 4Y-O, ‘Angel Face’ 3W-YYO;

The class for the Quinn Award calls for 24 standard daffodils from at least five RHS Divisions. Flowers in the winning collection are:
