I trust this very belated letter shows exactly how I feel about the honour the American Daffodil Society bestowed on me, at the World Daffodil Convention in St Louis last April, when they awarded me their prestigious Gold Medal award.
This was something I often thought about but never expected to receive and to be named alongside many of the worlds greatest growers is a marvellous honour indeed.
The medal now hangs proudly, for all to see, on our lounge wall.
To the Awards Committee, those who nominated me and those who supported the nomination I give my sincere thanks.
At the time I had no idea about the award and my wife was as surprised as I was when my name was read out.
If the person who receives it this year is as thrilled as I was, she/he will be over the moon.
