2017 Daffodil Season is underway in Canberra

Our season is well and truly under way despite the very dry and cold winter we have had in Canberra.
The micro mini is about half the size and height of the N. asturiensis.
If you look carefully, you will notice that a number of N. romieuxii in the pot have a split in the cups.

  1. Hi Graham,

I thought it would be a little early for spring in Australia. Little do I know. Thanks for the pictures.

  2. Hi Clay
You are correct. It is Winter here. Over time the beginning of our season has moved both earlier and later. Our season gets under way towards the end of July and will last well into October if it is not too hot in early Spring.
As the flowering time for the daffodils in the photos is so early we don’t sell them as they are way too early for most shows and that is the case even if you put them in a refrigerator. As can be seen from the photos some of the flowers would make very good exhibition flowers if there was a show in Winter.
We don’t have snow here but we do have frost down to minus 8.4. This year we have had lots of minus 5 and 6 days. Little effect on the daffodils.

  3. Hi Graham,

Nice pictures. You and David Adams must be competing to see who can grow the most petals on a daffodil. Yours has 8 and so far his 12 would win the prize as to most petals. J

I also have some daffodils that are so early I never get them to a show, as they normally bloom before our show season starts (even if I took them to Califormina).

    Clay
