Hello All Daffodil Aficionados!
The Georgia Daffodil Society held it’s show in the usual venu of the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell Georgia last Saturday March 10th.
It was a nice chilly day which seems to be rare for this show date in Roswell but very nice for the show. The cooler
and longer winter season for Atlanta this year seems to have been favorable for the Daffodils as the quality was quite good.
The container awards are not shown here but were awarded. Otherwise, any other missing ADS Awards that are not shown here, were
not awarded. The missing flower name in the 5 stem Historic winner is reported as Thalia.
I wanted to dedicate this show to the memory of Betty Hartzog who departed this life in early May of 2016. She was a very
generous person and kind to a fault, spreading the joys of gardening, and sharing plants of all kinds with everyone she could including
children, getting them interested as young as she could.
With that in mind, I donated a trophy of a Murano Glass Fire Bowl to the winner of the Georgia Daffodil Society garden club
award of horticulteral excellence at this show. The winner of this trophy was agreed upon by all judges to be the winning Tuggle
entry, exhibited by Becky Fox Matthews. I was so happy to provide this trophy and I’m sure Betty is smiling on us as we all read
this post.
The photos of the winners in the show are below.
And so kicks off the Daffodil Show season for me!

Tuggle Award Winner, was also the Garden Clubs Award of Horticultural Excellence. This award is given to any agreed upon entry, or single flower in the show and is discussed among all judges attending the show. Also, I personally wanted to dedicate this show to Betty Hartzog Who had departed this life in May of 2016. I donated the trophy that Becky is holding in this photo of a Murano Fire Bowl. This was the highlight of this show for me personally, as some of you might know how kind and generous Betty was in heart.

Great report, Tom.
The show seemed smaller, but mighty.
It was a joy to judge. We had several revotes because the winners were so
close. Excellent blooms after a see saw winter and an ice
Storm and lastly high winds that ripped through the state of Georgia before
going on to South and North Carolina and northward in the form of yet
another snow storm.
As always, Tom, worked long and hard on the perfect photos we see. Thank
you, Tom!
Tom,
Let me add my thanks to that of Jackie. We were rocked by that winter storm here in NC and 66 miles per hour winds. I found some survivors in the garden and that’s what I brought. Thanks for the pictures. I forgot my camera when I went to Georgia so I saved your pictures.
