2018 Nashville Show – Standard Collection Awards

Now we move on to the ADS awards for standard collections at the ADS 2018 national daffodil show. As usual, I will not mention the awards for classes where the award was not given or where there were no entries.

The best collection of 5 historic daffodils contained:
Back: ‘Madame de Graaff’ 1W-W (1887), ‘Lucifer’ 2W-YOO (1890), ‘Firebrand’ 3WWY-R (1897);
Front: ‘Queen of Spain’ 5Y-Y, ‘Aurelia’ 7Y-Y (1913).

The Purple Ribbon is for the best collection of 5 standard daffodils. The Red-White-Blue Ribbons is for the best collection of American-bred standards. One exhibit won both awards. The flowers are:

The Carncairn Trophy is for the best collection of 5 standard daffodils bred in Ireland, both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Flowers in the winning exhibit are:
‘Tudor Dance’ 1W-Y (Richardson), ‘Lennymore’ 2Y-R (Duncan), ‘Woodland Prince’ 3W-Y (Bloomer),
‘Ceylon’ 2Y-O (Richardson), ‘Golden Joy’ 2Y-Y (Bloomer).

The New Zealand Award is for the best collection of 5 standard daffodils bred in New Zealand. Flowers in the winning exhibit are:

The Northern Ireland Trophy is for the best collection of 5 standard daffodils bred in Northern Ireland. Flowers in the winning exhibit are:

Despite its name, the Dutch Trophy is not for standards bred in Holland; it honors the trophy’s donor. The requirement is that each of the five standards was registered in a different decade. For example, 1950-1959 and 1990-1999 are two different decades. Flowers in the winning exhibit are:

The Helen K. Link Award is for the best set of three different cultivars exhibited by their hybridizer in the ADS Challenge Section. Flowers in the winning exhibit are:

The exhibitor was Nial Watson.  These were staged one behind the other on the table; I’ve spread them apart for this photograph so that you can see them.

The Murray Evans Trophy is for the best collection of six different cultivars exhibited by their hybridizer in the ADS Challenge Section. Flowers in the winning exhibit are:

Middle row: W1188 11aO-O, W679 11aW-Y;
Bottom row: W1192 2Y/W-P, W818 11aY-O.
The exhibitor was Nial Watson. The flower at the upper left won the W. A. Bender Ribbon as the best bloom in the ADS Challenge Section.

The William G. Pannill Cup is for the best collection of twelve different cultivars exhibited by their hybridizer in the ADS Challenge Section. Flowers in the winning exhibit are:
