Blooms at Bob Spott’s

Wednesday, Bob and I went to Ironstone to deliver posters for the upcoming daffodil show in March. After we returned, Bob gave me a tour of his daffodils in bloom. Here are some photos of Bob’s Blooms:

Photos of the first and last clumps are of daffodils that do not have leaves! The only time I have seen a leaf-free daffodil is N. viridiflorus.

Thank you for the tour Bob!

  1. Thank you Nancy
    Did you take names?
A little early one of the wages up here said negative 40 and 8 inches of snow this week
    We’ll see

  2. John, the first and last photos are of a seedling that has no leaves – only a bloom atop the stalk (as does viridiflorus). This is its fourth week of bloom. The second photo is of Harold Koopowitz’s ‘Harold’s Legacy’ 2W-Y (Habit x Emerald Sea). It usually blooms about the first of February here. It has been in bloom over a week. The third photo is of a 8Y-Y unnamed seedling. Nothing special except it blooms in January here. The fourth photo is one of many indistinguishable viridiflorus seedlings (has a leaf plus a stalk). I have many similar outcomes from crosses made with 7Y-Y cultivars. It lasts several weeks.

  3. Bob, thanks for identifying the flowers.  Very nice.  How nice it is to have so many blooms at this time of year.  It’s going down to zero or below here tonight.  :-(   I think I have “flower envy.”
