Friends, my records show that I bought this cultivar in 1992 at the Ameriflora expo in Columbus, as ‘Tamar Fire’. It should be a double, but as you can see, it’s not. It’s a lovely intermediate-sized cultivar, about 72mm diameter, and deserves a name. It’s not a good grower, as I only got about 6 blooms this year. It’s obviously old, and likely from Holland. Any suggestions for a name?
Could it be Bantam 2y-y00
Thanks for the suggestion, Larry, but the photos of ‘Bantam’ in Daffseek seem to me to have flatter cups.
definitely not Bantam, more like Entente
Thanks, Malcolm. Yes it does look like it, but ‘Entente’ is listed with a diameter of 110mm, much bigger than my flower. Also, I got this in 1992, and ‘Entente’ wasn’t registered until 1996. Any other suggestions?
Mary Lou,
How does N. Aberfoyle fit your flower I notice on daffseek
one picture has a small rim?
Ian
Thanks, Ian. But I doubt that’s what I have. I got it in 1992 and it wasn’t registered until 1994. Also, Aberfoyle is a larger flower. Any other suggestions?
Mary Lou
It looks like ‘State Express’ – but it is an excellent grower.
Thanks, Brian. I could hardly get by with exhibiting ‘State Express’ as an Intermediate, could I? :-)
But thanks for the suggestion.
Dear friend Mary Lou,
I have bloomed a similar variety, named Red Devon. Maybe this is it?

Thank you for the suggestion, Oleg. I looked for Red Devon in Daffseek, and it certainly could by my mystery flower.
Thanks again,
Mary Lou
I’m glad I was helpful to you. Here is my photo. And I also have a question
by name. Two new varieties bloomed this spring, both reverse colored.

24.04.19 red devon 001.1
24.04.19 reverse 007.1
24.04.19 reverse pink 008.1
Maybe the reverse is ‘Avalon’, but I’ve no idea about the yellow pink.
I am very grateful for your answer.Yes, the white reverse is most likely
the Avalon.Regarding Pink Reverse – I looked at a photos from daffsek, he
remind me of Aurora Borealis, but I do not know what height it is. My
plants have a low stem.

Maybe this is Lorikeet, I just don’t remember him. I remember that was also
low.

Is it possible the Y-P is Billy Graham. Here it was late season.
Thank you Lawrence,
Well, these bulbs came from Holland, so it is unlikely.
But thanks for the suggestion.

Billy Graham was bred in Holland…. Here’s the Facebook note from
Willem Leenen This daffodil was raised by my father
to Victorian Daffodil Society.
But I don’t think your flower is Billy Graham which has grown a little longer in the cup, and more refined than your picture. Also standing tall! Maybe yours is Lorikeet which was squatter and more course in my experience.

Wayne,
Daffseek and the RHS registration data indicate the raiser of ‘Billy Graham’ is unknown.
Do you know of any records that show Willem Leenen as the raiser (hybridizer) of ‘Billy Graham’ which we can use to update Daffseek?
I tried to find the Facebook note but could not see it.
Thanks,
Ben Blake,
Daffseek Developer
Some years ago I had 3 x N.Rapture that won the 1st prise at 3 Shows over 3
weekends, after each show I put them in my daffodil fridge until the next
weekend.
After the 3rd show I put them back in the fridge and forgot all about them.
When some weeks later I went to put some beer in I found the now dead N.
Rapture still in situ
and reported the fact on daffnet!
About 6 weeks later I received an In Deepest Sympathy card in the post from
New Zealand, with the message ‘Sorry to hear about the death of your
Rapture”
It was signed, John Hunter.
That what friends are for!
Regards to all,
Ian
Thank for your ansver Wayne,
I think you are right. “BIlly Graham” has a different form of petals. They
are somewhat narrower to the tips.
Thanks for the photo.
Oleg.

The note quoted is on Victoria Daffodil Society page in response to two “Billy Graham” pics posted on 5th of March 2018.
I hope you can find it. For me it shed light on the unknown origins of the flower.
Cheers
Wayne
