Identifying historic varieties

Hi- I am researching some flowers in Oklahoma (likely types of narcissus/daffodil—no picture yet as they are just emerging) that I believe have been isolated since WWII. As I know nothing about plant genetics, is it possible to identify the exact cultivars? Given the great number of narcissus cultivars, is it possible to identify the exact type just from pictures? Especially since they have likely been genetically isolated? My goal is to know if they are identifiable as an existing/heirloom type or have mutated into a new type. Is genetic testing available for plants? Thanks.

  1. We have several people who are very good at identifying historic daffodils here, Vince, so please post photos when they bloom and hopefully someone will be able to ID them for you. I think genetic plant testing is still quite expensive.
