At Otaki we consciously give a large number of Premier Blooms to fill the top table and show the public the largerange of Daffodils that we grow . An impressive top table .
We also had a large display of vased blooms , mixed sizes and condition , to further show the daff range – particularly varieties that are attractive but not always show types .
Our David Adams Class gives exhibitors a chance to use a different range of blooms – to be judged partly on display effect .
I used 2 orange flushed flowers ; a very neat , straight cupped Spud Brogden seedling , and one of my flushed seedlings .
I also used the very bright Graham Phillips registration RUBY DUBY , very eye catching .
Very bright as was the eye catching STORMBRINGER ; a glowing orange / red cup .
Reg Cull had 4 flowers of a big , smooth 2Y – Y seedling , H C – j – 3 , bred Kasia – x – Gold Tan , – impressive .
Kiwi breeders are struggling with 1W – O seedlings but there are some very good yellow / orange trumpets available . A nice vase of the Max Hamilton OHAKUNE , above 2 very bright OHAU MAGIC , – a Peter Irwin registration .
Diane Irwin had a very bright INTERMEDIATE sdlg , white / pink double in the Intermediate Vase class . Great colour .
And the big boys like to show their big toys ; we have had a wet winter and flower size for all was impressive . All agreed that 3 blooms stood out as very big .We could not agree on the biggest – small margins involve ; – I brought them home for a measure and photo shoot .
The Biggest at 121 mm , a 2Y – O that not many had seen before , breeder Colin Crotty , ULTRASONIC , bred Feverpitch – x – Rheban Red . It was beaten for premier by a very fine THUMBS UP , only a little smaller and in contention for top flower .
The other big boys were 2W – P VANTAGE POINT , at 119 mm and 2W – W PILLOW TALK , – 118 MM
Very big but refined flowers , they certainly attract the visitors
