March Journal and Daffodil Selfie Props

I received my March Daffodil Journal in the mail yesterday and, oh my, just look at the front and back covers! They are gorgeous and it is a beautiful publication throughout. It will be a pleasure to settle down and read.

With social distancing, if any of you are using teleconferencing apps like FaceTime, Zoom, GoToMeeting, you might want to download the Daffodil Selfie Props just posted and mentioned on p. 19 of the March Journal. Two examples can be seen below, a daffodil mustache and a daffodil bow-tie. We used selfie props at our Master Gardeners’ Lawn & Garden Show booth held at the Nashville Fairgrounds earlier this year and they were a big hit. We were planning to have a selfie spot at our daffodil show this year, but of course it is canceled. So you might want to print and use these if you teleconference or just to entertain yourself!

There is also a new coloring book in the same section of Dafflibrary. Click on the ADS Pubs tab and then the ADS Handouts tab or use the links below. Here’s hoping everyone is staying safe until we can meet again.

  1. Interesting.

Has any decision been made about junior pictures?   I think the girls’
    bulbs are about to bloom.

  2. Not that I have heard, Drew.  I don’t believe there is anyone in the position of Youth Chair at the present.  You could encourage them to take photos of their flowers anyway.  They could submit them to Jolene for inclusion in the Journal.  Taking photos of their daffodils is also a requirement for eligibility for the Youth Achievement Award listed here: https://daffodilusa.org/about-ads/youth-program/

  3. Hi Becky and Drew and everyone else.

I recently sent an email message to all the sponsors I had listed for Youth. I asked that they encourage the Youth to take pictures of their Challenge Bulb which is Rapture this year. I asked to have these pictures sent to me as an attachment in an email.

Fred is working on a system where we can evaluate or judge the pictures. Perhaps we can do something like Esker Farm’s challenge on FaceBook and let viewers cast a vote. The details haven’t been worked out yet. I have begun getting some pictures sent to me. I’m saving them

We don’t want to disappoint the Youth. Plus, it is an activity that can be done at home as a family project. Some are sending in other Daffodil pictures besides Rapture. That’s fine too. We might as well have some fun with this.

  4. Frank, could you post that here on Daffnet as a new post?  That way people who know other youth (who may not have a sponsor) will have a chance to participate.
