Mike Brook

Mike Brook’s daughter Rachel Kingsbrook just contacted me and asked me to pass on to his friends that Mike is in the hospital with Covid-9. He is stable and on oxygen, but the doctors are very concerned. She is going to be allowed to see him tomorrow morning and wants to take messages to read to him from his friends around the world. Right now it is 2:30 pm in Nashville and I believe it would be 8:30 pm in Norwich, so please send an email to Rachel at title= as soon as you can so she can share them with Mike tomorrow morning.  I know Mike, his wife Ann and their daughter Rachel will be in everyone’s thoughts and prayers.

  1. Becky, thanks very much for sharing this news! I have sent an email to Rachel.

  2. From Mike’s daughter Rachel today: I was able to visit this morning. We were very lucky. At first we thought we wouldn’t be able to see him ever again after he was taken in the ambulance. Because there is no visiting in most cases and they told us we couldn’t go. That was very distressing. But then we were told one person could go this morning. So I was able to take all your messages. I printed them out and read them to him. But he wanted me to leave them for him to read back through. So it’s a good job I decided to print rather than just read them off my phone.

He is in grave condition and it still looks like he may not pull through. He is comfortable for now though.

However, he was so happy that so many of you have taken the time to send messages. I printed out the various photos several of you sent and put them up in his room. I was also able to take photos of family, a palm cross and his book of psalms. And a small bunch of his daffodils of course.

I took a wedding photo of him and mum because it is their anniversary tomorrow. I took a card and he told me what to write in it for mum and told him I would get her some flowers for the occasion. He was very pleased about that. True to form he isn’t too worried about himself. More about whether mum is ok and whether everything is being taken care of. So it’s good I was able to see him and reassure him that everything is in hand. Now he doesn’t need to worry.

He tired fairly quickly, but was alert enough to fully understand what I was saying and to look through the photos and listen to all your messages.

I can’t tell you how thankful I am to you all. First for the friendship and fun times he has shared with you, but especially for the messages you all sent. He really was so pleased that so many people were thinking of him. It was nice to be able to give him something pleasant to think about and put up your pictures to keep his mind focussed on happy times.

Sorry I haven’t got time to respond individually to those of you who have asked for updates. I am grateful to receive your enquiries and messages but currently don’t have time for individual replies as there are so many people to talk to. It’s a testament to how full his life is and how many friends he has from gardening and church and goodness knows what else!

    Thanks again.
