A Memorial Tribute to my English Daffodil Friend, Mike Brook

Over the last several years, I had the great pleasure to judge with Mike Brook twice, in ADS National Shows.  We had such a good time the first judging, we were like giddy schoolchildren a few years later – when we learned we would once again be on the same judging team.  I’ve learned some interesting expressions and words from my daffodil UK friends over the last 45+ years.  And I’ve no doubt taught them a few.  My favorite expression I learned from Mike was when we judged together the first time.  He remarked, “Look, Jaydee, such a shame, this flower has gone over.  It’s such a pity really, because I know it was lovely a few days ago!”  What a NICE and unique way to say a bloom was past its prime!  So descriptive.

I don’t have to say how wonderful Mike was.  All you daffodil people already know that.

I am so very grateful that my life’s path intersected that of English gentleman, Mike Brook, here on Planet Earth.  I am so much richer for knowing him.

  1. I am grieving deeply over the loss of Mike Brook. What a good time we had
in Dallas while discussing a wide variety of topics. He was particularly
proud of his upcoming wedding anniversary. The daffodil world has a lost a
fine man. I’m grateful for such pleasant memories. Annette Parker

I just finished a Grand Rounds about COVID-19 which was in Mike’s honor.

    Everyone, please stay safe.
