Arrangements for Mike Brook

There will be a short burial service on Tuesday at 3 p.m. UK time for Mike Brook with his daughter Rachel Kingbrook and his wife Ann in attendance. His daughter asked if I would share this information with Daffnet and Mike’s US friends so we can join in the moment — to say our goodbyes and think of fond memories and happy times, say a prayer or light a candle. Ann and Rachel have chosen a casket covered in daffodils and Rachel hopes Mike’s last daffodils growing under shade will be open for her to add to a ‘gardener’s trug’ of flowers she ordered from a florist. Rather than people sending flowers they would like to choose a suitable charity at a later time.

The hearse will come to their house at around 2:30. They will then drive to Reedham church where Mike and Ann were married, past the homes of some friends who will stand out to wave goodbye as they pass. Other people are going to park along the route and wave. They are only allowed two people, Ann and Rachel, at the burial and are not allowed into the church. As Rachel said, “For a man who dedicated much of his life to that church and sang there in the choir, as well as being church warden, this is particularly sad. However, we are doing what we can to make it special with the daffodil casket and with people waving goodbye as we pass. Once we are allowed we will have a celebration of life with musical performances and poetry readings and a eulogy and hopefully as many flowers as we can get from everyone we know to really fill the church with blooms.”

Here is a world clock if you would like to be on their time (same as London) at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. It is 6 hours ahead of me near Nashville in the Central US time zone. https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

  1. Becky,

Thanks so much for sharing that information with us. Have been thinking a lot about Mike since I heard about his passing. He was just fine only a few days ago in Dallas. Hard to believe he is gone. We just don’t know what tomorrow will bring, do we. I certainly will be thinking about him Tuesday.

    Sincerely,

    Larry

  2. Thanks Becky. I will have a personal moment of silence and a prayer for Michael. Jack

  3. I often get confused on international time zones and I stand corrected (thanks, Darrin).  3:00 pm in England would be 10 am  Central and 9:00 am Eastern.

  4. Other way around, Becky. We get earlier out west. So it will be 9 AM Eastern, 8 AM Central, 7 AM Mountain, 6 AM Pacific. (From the person who has family in all of them and has to do this math regularly!) Thank you for sharing the information with us.

  5. Thank you for the clarification on time. I’m so glad to have shared time
with Mike in Dallas. He was a very pleasant man. Annette in Louisiana

  6. And 3am Wednesday NZ time. I will have to set the alarm and make an English Breakfast cuppa.

  7. Everyone, London is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time, so 3 pm in London will be 10 am Eastern Time, 9 am Central Time, and 7 am Pacific Time.

  8. Yes I agree with Stephen from what I calculated…with Jef’s eyes.  London is 5 hours ahead of me in Eastern Daylight Time. And in Becky’s central time zone London is 6 hours…..etc.   It can be confusing for sure!!

So that means for me in Maryville, TN (Eastern Daylight Time) I’ll be thinking of him and his family especially at 10:00am on Tuesday.

  9. Thanks, everyone, for chiming in with the correct times!  I used to be quite good at math, but for some reason have always had a hard time with time zones!

And if anyone wants to send any comments to Mike’s daughter Rachel and wife Ann, you can leave them here and I will pass them on to Rachel.  Or if you wish to mail a card: Ann Brook and Rachel Kingbrook at Barn End, Grimmer Lane, Cantley Norwich Norfolk England NR13 3SB United Kingdom.
