Tallest daffodil

This is an interesting email thread about an unusually tall pot of daffodils.  I have tried to include the emails related to Terry’s messages.  I hope you can comment on his purchase of the miniature Tete-a-Tete variety which must be something else?

Terry Jarman contacted me on the Daffnet contact form about his unusual 3-foot pot of daffodils.  I replied via email and he sent me further information about his pot of daffodils.  When he first contacted me, the pot was more in season and since then the blooms are fading and are pat their prime.

From Terry Jarman:

I got some satisfactory photos. yesterday, but since the flowers are well ready for removing as the heads are now shriveling I will separate the 3ft specimen and take a photo. of it singly.which I intend to do today. I feel I should apologize to all daffodil enthusiasts at the state of the overcrowded stems in the pots, but as I explained previously, all this batch of bulbs was purchased marked as miniature Tete-a-Tete variety, height average 6″ to 8″ !!!!

Hi Ben,

Thank you for replying so quickly. Yes, I will be pleased to send you photographs which you may post on daffnet.org or similar website, also my original message if you wish.

I took the original photographs a couple of days ago (without tape measure) , and have taken another today with the tape showing the height – I will download these and crop to show the top of the tape measure and also the bottom of the tape to show there is no ‘con’. Unfortunately, in the last couple of days we have had bitterly cold winds on the East Coast and most of the blooms are well past their best.
Strange thing about this particular group of daffodils, my wife bought them as ‘miniatures’, which I like very much, but most are still around 2 ft in height !

Best regards, Terry Jarman, Jarman Photographic Repairs, Cleethopes, U.K.

(and 3-foot stems).

I have a trefoil-shape pot rear of my house in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, U.K. with many tall daffodils, but I have today measured just one which is exactly 3 feet(90cm)in height from top of soil in pot to extreme top of flower. I have taken photos. but I think I will take another few showing an accurate tape measure as proof. All flowers in this pot were grown by my wife from bulbs bought from a local supermarket and labelled as Dutch origin.
