World Convention

It is with much regret we have decided to cancel the 2020 convention

At this stage we are proposing to “do an Olympics” and try to hold the 2020 convention in 2021 – but it is still to early to seriously try to arrange such an event with ll the uncertainties and stresses currently.

I will come back with new plans when they can be made.

For all those who have already registered and paid I will be in contact to arrange a refund – it might take me a bit of time as I seem to be rather tied up at the moment.  Thankfully I can process refunds through Eventbrite.  As always trying to do this is a bit harder than the other way around.

Keep safe and well all

Graeme

  1. I should have added that we are still planning on (hoping to) have our show on the original dates this year – of course everyone will be welcome and if people are able to travel you would get a warm welcome!

  2. We certainly understand, Graeme.  Such a difficult time for all!  I’m sure we all look forward to when we can safely travel again and can once again visit our daffodil friends.  And I’m thankful that we have the internet and venues such as Daffnet and Facebook so we can at least keep in touch with each other.

  3. Graeme, it would be most helpful if there could be assurance that the WDC would be held in 2021?   Many of us had paid travel commitments built around the WDC 2020, which we believe we could just delay until SEP 2021.  That would be much easier than trying to obtain refunds in this climate of inability to communicate with customer service  – anywhere – for any reason.  We have a narrowing window of opportunity to act, or some will start losing money on pre-paid travel.  I realize it is a big ask and am sure you have much to do.  So while I feel very badly about making such a request of you and the various AU hosting daffodil groups at such a critical and trying time, I think I speak for many that are looking for encouragement and direction, so that we may plan and act accordingly.

I can assure you we are planning on holding WDC in 2021.

We felt we had no option but to postpone from this year given the local government has indicated that social distancing rules will apply “for at least 6 months” and the major government run event in September (Floriade) was cancelled for that reason (they are going to plant the bulbs around a number of local parks instead of the usual display I believe).  Our government keeps making the point this will be a long haul.  Given people as much notice as possible seemed to be the best thing we could do.

I certainly hope that the travel restrictions (right now you could not come to Australia if you wanted to and when those will be lifted in unclear) and social distancing requirements are able to be lifted in plenty of time to have the WDC in 2021 and allow people to plan and travel.

Assuming things “sort themselves out” we will be running the event in 2021

  5. Thank you for this encouraging news Graeme! I know I speak for many when I say you have put a lot of minds at ease. Now we can get busy communicating with airlines, hotels, etc. – that we would like to rebook/change, but to SEP 2021. If I had some cold champagne, I would pop the cork.

Now let’s all stay healthy and send prayers and thoughts for our friend, Mike Brook, in England!

    Cordially,
    Jaydee Atkins Ager
