Nancy Pilipuf’s husband, Fred, has passed

Many of you know, at least by name, our longest term member and perennial best shower in the Midwest Daffodil Society, longtime ADS member and ADS Instructor. I learned last evening that Fred Pilipuf, Nancy’s husband, passed away on October 14. He was in late stages of Parkinson’s and was in a long care facility for over two years. Nancy, a son, and a daughter were able to be with him at the end, though prior visits had been hampered by COVID restrictions.

There is an interesting obit at  http://honquestfh.com/ .

Nancy told me that they requested no flowers at the cremation service and that donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation were more appropriate. Details are at the obit. However, one flower display did arrive, much appreciated by Nancy as horticulture had played such a large part in Fred and Nancy’s lives together.

I’ll mention just some ways that Fred helped Nancy in her life with daffodils. Fred was a pipe fitter. While helping to remove a walk-in cooler from a closing flower shop he got a good idea and bought and installed the cooler in the chicken coop which he remodeled as Nancy’s workspace for garden matters. It was and is also storage for the substantial Christmas decorations which were a fixation for him, as noted in the obit. Nancy is an ADS Instructor. Bruce Eckersberg and I took the ID part of one judges school in that facility, which looks more like a small chalet. I am sure that there are very few facilities like that in daffodildom, this one constructed by Fred Pilipuf, R.I.P.

Nancy will join me here in Kildeer to take part in the Refresher on Saturday as she doesn’t ZOOM. During her visit we will reminisce on behalf of you all about the substantial role in the ADS and MDS by Nancy, supported always by her life mate, Fred.

  1. Fred was a great guy.  I think of him and Nancy each time we pass by his Bobcat loader my landlord bought from Denis Dailey who in turn bought from Fred when he could no longer drive it safely a couple years before Denis’ passing. This nearly every time we are out a the farm.   I am sorry for Nancy’s loss.
