December 2020 Daffodil Journal

My “extra” copies of the December Journal arrived 4 PM today. Normally members can begin to expect them in their mailbox starting the day after I get my “extra” copies. With the holidays I hope some of you will find them starting Monday. Let me know if you don’t receive your copy by New Years.

The cover is the winning Wells Knieram Medal (Best in Show) from our recent Visionary Venture Fall Forum Photo Show. It is an image submitted by member Melanie Paul. It is a picture of 3 stems of Lemon Silk. I think all will agree that Melanie certainly captured the true essence of the Daffodil.

Happy holidays.

Stay safe

  1. I’m getting widespread reports that Journals haven’t been delivered. I spoke with my post mistress who told me that because of COVID and most people canceling Christmas that the Post Office was swamped with mail. Since the Journal is sent as bulk mail (the lowest priority mailing service) and the timing of competing with the huge amount of mail for Christmas that there may have been delays distributing the Journals. I am concerned because I expected Journals to reach members beginning last week. I still don’t have my personal copy either.

Please write and let me know if you receive your Journal Monday January 4 or Tuesday January 5 so I know how much patience to maintain before investigating or ordering new Journals from the printer as I suspect my supply of bulk copies won’t be enough.

Thank you for your patience with this problem

  2. I would give the Journals another week or two …or three. Really!!  Our 401K statements that are sent San Diego to Reno (a 10 hr road trip) via First Class Mail are usually received by the 6th of the month.  They are oversized envelopes (bigger than 10s). We did not get them until the 30th of Dec!! Apparently they “look” like bulk mail.  Our locally printed and mailed first class, pre-sorted neighborhood magazine was delivered 2 weeks later than “normal.”  My Christmas box to Emily was mailed the week before Thanksgiving. It sat in a San Francisco Distribution Center for over 3 weeks (25 Nov-20 Dec). Then it sat in a Chicago Distribution Center for almost a week (20 Dec–25 Dec). Then it supposedly circled the world for a week because it left Chicago O’Hare on Christmas Night but didn’t get scanned again until on Jan 1 at 8:20 am supposedly leaving Doha, Qatar!! Now it has tried to leave Doha 3 times but I think it is still sitting in a container in a hanger somewhere at the Doha airport.  I found a Qatar Air flight that is scheduled to leave Qatar at 8:20 in the morning on Sundays, Mondays Wednesdays for Vienna, Austria…..so that must be the plane it is trying to catch!  My mail carrier said that there is so much extra mail in the system that it is exhausting mail carriers and the sorting system.  Our mail carriers “went the extra mile” to wait for the Amazon trucks to arrive at the post office on New Year’s Eve morning to sort packages and get them delivered on New Year’s Eve because they knew that they’d be swamped again the following Saturday with no deliveries on New Year’s Day! Even though that meant the mail route was delayed by several hours for delivery, at least people got their packages as timely as possible – thanks to the local postal workers! With fewer planes flying and postal workers stretched to the limit thanks to COVID, we have to be patient!

  3. Do we know of anyone who has received theirs? Mine hasn’t gotten here yet either.

  4. I’m so sorry for the slow delivery. Our beautiful Journal has been delayed. I contacted the printer. Here is their response I received this morning:

I’m sorry to say but I’m hearing this from everyone.  The USPS has informed us that it can take “at least an additional two weeks to get these delivered”, so with that being said, we’re looking at a month for delivery on these.

We did mail this issue on Thursday December 17, so hoping your subscribers will start seeing their copies in their mailboxes next week or even early the following week.  I’m sure everyone will understand, just doesn’t make it any easier, I truly know.

  5. Im still waiting for my journal. Im patient it will be delivered. Thanks
for all you do for our organization. Ceci

  6. I posted some brochures in Christchurch on December 22nd. I am advised that one recipient received his yesterday. That is about 3000 miles per week. There is hope for the Journals yet.

  7. David Adams, I received your post yesterday as well.  No December Journal yet though. Hopefully soon!

  8. I have not received my journal either.  I eagerly look forward to them.  I know the post office has had issues with mail.  I sent 10 packages out on Dec 18, and as of  January 14, only 3 have been delivered.  Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

  9. YIPEE! My Journal was delivered today. Fingers crossed each of you will begin to find your copies in your mail soon too.

And, equally important 2 new seed catalogs

  10. Hi all

I’m starting to hear that the Journal is showing up in mail boxes. I heard from Fredrica, Cincinnati and Carolyn in Cumming, GA today say they each found their copies. In fact, Carolyn decided to read her copy first before passing on to me its arrival :-)
