The week has been warm and dry , the flowers need a drink but are opening steadily .
The shows for this weekend have all been cancelled and the North Island show prospects are not looking good .
A bit more time to sort the flowers and take a few photos . A mix of old and new for you to enjoy .
VALLEY GLOW . – 2Y – O , – Colin Crotty 1999 . Always a very useful early flower – having a very good season . Big , round , flat , Has many Champion Blooms to its credit .A few excellent flowers .
RAUN 1W – W – David Jackson 1989 . A lot of tall , big flowers , flat and smooth . Whitens with age . That serrated trumpet rim can give a lot of nicks , – but a good one is hard to beat .
SHOWDOWN – 3W – YOO , — Spud Brogden 2007 – A top quality div 3 , much needed , bright , very flat , and reliable .
BERMUDA TRIANGLE , – 1Y – Y , – Peter Ramsay , — A reliable early trumpet , tall , good size and very consistent .
G P – L – 9 – 4 , – 4Y – O – a Kiwi Sunset seedling from Graham Phillips .A Big , heavy , full flower , – very showable .Tall er , bigger and brighter than K S .
J F M 4W – WYP , — A 2019 seedling , – very strong stem , long but strong neck , – similar colouring to Party Girl , but bigger , taller and flatter .Very showable .
And a few historics to finish with , both these have stood the test of time – were top show flowers when I started exhibiting back in the 1970s
STRINES – 2Y – Y , — Frederick Broad , U K . , – 1965 – Looks a little pointed now but a big , flat flower .Still short stemmed .
REWARD – 1Y – Y – G W E Brogden 1963 A big , golden flower , – quite round for that era , – a lot of premiers .
And another , improved panorama with the late sun over the daffs .
Thanks John.
Missing not having the Titahi Bay show tomorrow to compete against you.
Next year I hope.
Thank you for the update. I am sorry about the lockdown, but hope your country can minimize the deaths and life changing infections that Covid 19 brings. I concur on Valley Glow, Raun and Showdown, The seedlings I hope to see in person someday.
