Fall Daffodil Planting

This fall I gave away boxes of bulbs to four different daffodil societies trying to cut back on my bulbs. Some I gave away entire blocks of cultivars so that I would not have that cultivar any more.  I thought I have given away enough as I gave away over a thousand bulbs. However, I finished my planing in 30 degree F. weather, and took up all my space prepared for bulb planting, gave away several hundred bulbs to my favorite garden clubs and still ran out of space to put bulbs.  Know I’m trying to give away a bucket (five gallon bucket that is 1/2 full) of mixed bulbs that I have left over. No names no color codes just 1/2 of a 5 gallon bucket of daffodil bulbs.

I forgot how much daffodils will multiply by bulb division after living in Eastern North Carolina (within 6 miles of the Atlantic Ocean and in Sand) for years.  Daffodils there only produced a very minimum of bulbs each year. You have to leave them down for two years to get that minimal increase.  The increase here is fantastic, I left the bulbs down three years and they had already started pushing themselves out of the ground.

Anyone want these bulbs?  I call them orphan bulbs as the are alone with no division or color codes.

  1. Hi Clay,

The Virginia Daffodil Society would be happy to adopt your orphans. And we’ll pay the freight.

You know where to find me…

  2. Hi Nancy,

The local garden club, “Brick Garden Club” has already claimed them. They
have an area that they take care of at Brick Blvd and Rt 70 in Brick. They
want to plant them there. I guess I should have said they were first come
    first serve.

You guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday season.
