- 3:15 pm — “Miniatures at Dryad Nursery, England” – presented by Anne Wright
Dryad Nursery is owned and run by Anne Wright, who specialises in breeding miniature narcissi, snowdrops and hepaticas. As well as her own hybrids, she also grows and sells miniatures bred by Brian Duncan in Ireland. The talk will take you through a year at the nursery, including cultivation and propagation of the bulbs.
Dr. Koopowitz analyses some of the problems caused by hybridizing that is focused on breeding for show flowers as well as how using the RHS divisions have constrained the development of new kinds of daffodils. The potential of some little known species will be used to suggest how we can make new types of daffodils. We usually judge against perfection for type, but how does one know what is perfection for something one has never seen before? The concept of perfection will be discussed and ways of judging novelties suggested.This is an approved Judges Refresher presentation. Judges requesting credit please register and pay $5 fee.
