The unusually long and severe cold spell in western U S A has had some news coverage in NZ , – quite a shock to the system and not what you need at the start of the Daff season .
We have had very bad flooding on the eastern areas of the North Island and around Auckland .
Not a good season for dahlia growers but our local CENTRAL DISTRICTS DAHLIA CIRCLE held a show in Palmerston North , today , – Saturday 4 March .
The CENTRAL DAFFODIL GROUP were pleased to hold a bulb sales table , – we have several members in both groups .
We only had about forty bags for sale – all sold out by 2 PM .Only a small daff team involved , – a good late summer catch up and bulb exchange as well as surplus sales .
Thanks to all involved – as usual Brian MacKenzie had the show well organised , – for both groups .
Enjoy some bright flowers and Daffodil connections .
Show Champion is chosen from best Vase or best single . It went to this fine vase
Brian had a good show , reserve Champ with a Very large RYECROFT HELEN
Also bright red mini ball CORNELL and HAMARI ACCORD , – very good symetry ..
Also medium Dec with TRENGROVE MILLENIUM
Pom Poms from Lucie Beattie and Micro Minis from Dennis Rodgers.
Alister Davey , from South Island , registers both daffodils and Dahlias with the RURAL – prefix . – RURAL MICHELLE
SHOW AND TELL , big flower from this oldie . And bright POOH seedling collarette
More colour down the benches
.
Some of our team , setting up , quick sales .
I have noticed , in the last few week , clumps of BELLADONA MAJOR lillies along the roadsides in our rural area .
Very attractive distant cousins to our daffodils.
A very bright pink / red here .
The most common is this softer pink .
A very clean white , – uncommon but attractive .
Are Belladonna lillies by the roadside , – the same as NAKED LADIES on the verge
At 6 ft 1 , I am dwarfed by the 7 foot SUNFLOWERS ..
Stay warm and enjoy the daffs , – – SOON .
Cheers John .
Wow, Thanks John for sharing this with us.
