Seven States Daffodil Show, Boylston, MA

Set up for the show started Friday and continued until judging on Saturday morning at the Seven States Daffodil Show at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, Boylston, Massachusetts. Peter Timms was the host and had everything running smoothly. However, it was a smallish show this year because of the weather.  Sally Nash was there and added to the festivities along with Dianne Mrak. I hadn’t seen Dianne since she presented me the Gold Quinn Medal at the ADS National Convention in Pittsburg back in 1999. It was good to see everyone at the show.

I only have a few pictures to show as my camera’s battery gave out on me and I had stop the photographs.

The Gold Ribbon was Tanzey Girl 3W-OOY exhibited by Dianne Mrak.  The top bloom in a three stem exhibit.

The mini-Gold was Sun Disc 7Y-Y exhibited by Mark Budaj.

The best Classic Single Stem was Marlin 3W-YYR 1956 exhibited by Mark Budaj.

The mini white Ribbon was Sun Disc 7Y-Y exhibited by Mark Budaj.

The White Ribbon and the best Three Stem Historic was Actaea 9W-YYR before 1919 was exhibited by Hazel Capella.

The Best Intermediate was Scarlet Tanager which came from the Best 5 Stems Intermediate selection exhibited by Dianne Mrak.

The best 5 Stems intermediates was from Left: Bantam 2Y-YOO, Olive Branch 3W-GGY, Birthday Girl 2W-GWW, Pink Sunday 2W-P, Scarlet Tanager 2Y-R; Exhibited by Dianne Mrak.

The Red-White-Blue Collection of 5 stems of American Bred Daffodils was also voted as the Purple Ribbon and .exhibited by Dianne Mrak.

Back left: Excitement 3W-YYO Havens, Robins Pride 2W-P Mitsch, Pacific Rim 2Y-YYR Mitsch; front left: Perrydale 2Y-YPP Havens, American Dream 1Y-P Havens.

Youth Best Bloom was Actaea 9W-YYR, and also voted the Dianne Mrak Award for Best Youth in the Youth Class was exhibited by Alexander Mahabir.

(cancel this statement) “I have one more photograph that I took and got distracted by my camera failing because of the dead battery I did not write down the winning exhibit and the the exhibitor. If someone can post to let me know what it won and the exhibitor I would appreciate it. Thanks,”

Corrected Copy: The Small Grower Ribbon was Jamestown 3W-GYY exhibited by Alexander Turner.

That’s all folks for my 2023 season.

  1. Thanks Clay. It has been great to follow the progress through the shows. Add well done to Dianne Mrak for her wins and the good quality of her flowers.

  2. The last pictures in my post of Pictures at the Seven States Daffodil Show has been updated.  I was able to recover the information on the, at that point, unnamed daffodil and exhibitor.

The Small Grower Ribbon, ‘Jamestown’ 3W-GYY, exhibited by Alexander Turner.

    Thanks,
