A Very Unusual Limequilla

Friends,
‘Limequilla’ 7 W-W is a lovely, late blooming, Havens jonquil hybrid… one of my favorites. As all of you will recall, monocot flowers, e.g. daffodils, gladiolas, tulips, etc., have flower parts in 3’s or multiples of 3’s… three stamens, or a multiple of three (six perianth segments), etc. So a ‘Limequilla’ bloom with 9 perianth segments would still be OK as 9 is a multiple of three. Right? Surely none of you would have any problem giving my ‘Limequilla’ bloom a blue ribbon, would you?

  1. Hi Ted and All,

I don’t think so, Ted!  It lacks something, or perhaps has too much of something else!!

Wilf Hall has raised some magnificent jonquil’s from Limequlla in a range of colours. My favourite is LQ4 bred from Limequilla x Topaz Dawn. It has taken best Div 7 at the last two National Shows – a photo is attached. For those interested I have sent a bulb of it to the USA for your Auction in Baltimore

For people coming over to NZ for the World Convention go to the NDSNZ Website for details. It’s time to sign up for the 21 day Tour or a shorter tour starting in Wellington. Registration forms for the North Island National Show in Hamilton and the World Convention in Dunedin will also be posted on the website in the future – by May at the latest. Those committed to the tour will receive a personal copy

    Peter and Lesley.
