Saturday 6 October was a very late date for an end of season daffodil show when the season was running about 10 days early and had all but finished for most growers .The venue was new to all – Te Takeretanga , known locally as Te Takere , – translates as ” the dispersal of knowledge “, and is the local Levin , Horowhenua , library and community centre .It is a converted supermarket shell , a million or so dollars later and has become a real community hub with all the electronic media connectivity expected today .We were taking our daffs to the people ; we usually ask the public to come to the daffs .A school holiday Saturday is a busy library day and we were delighted with the public interest and they asked us when could we return – a good day for all .We expected flowers to be in short supply ; -all made an extra effort and we managed 13 exhibitor , plus 2 South Island exhibitors ( in absentia ) , 267 vases containing 506 blooms . Judging was completed just as the public started to arrive ; Wilfred Hall and Diane Irwin were the final adjudicators .
