Daffodil Flag Flying in Ohio

IMG , koop aureus x miniatus, vThe last two winters have been very severe when most pots of bulbs in my unheated garage froze.  When I dumped the pots, there was one very small bulb of this one, a Koopowitz seedling from N. tazetta subsp. aureus x N. miniatus.  Harold sent me several bulbs of this in 2008, and it has bloomed most years.  I was surprised to see a bloom coming on such a small bulb.  This one opened yesterday, with at least one, maybe two, more buds coming.  The color will change as the bloom matures, with the petals becoming whiter and the corona less rust-colored.

So, thanks to Harold, I can have fall-blooming daffodils here in Ohio.
