Daffodil Show Washington, Louisiana March 4th

The newly formed, combined LA MISS Daffodil Society is hosting their first ever flower show and educational event in historic Washington, LA, on March 4.  The American Daffodil Society is 55 years old and is pleased to finally have a presence in LA.  It is a myth that we can’t grow daffodils this far south.

The event begins at 9 AM.  Bring cut flower stems of any and all types of daffodils.  Our term “daffodil” includes the flowers known as Narcissus, jonquils, sweeties, Texas Stars, and other common names.  We will identify them, help you enter them in the informal show, explain their merits, and you might win ribbons for your efforts!   Nationally recognized authority Dr. Ted Snazelle will present information learned from a lifetime of growing and showing daffodils.  A display of daffodil books,  brooches, and the lovely flowers will infect you with a raging case of yellow fever!   All containers and show materials will be furnished. Just bring flowers, no matter how common.

WHERE:  Washington, LA, exit 25 off I 49.  The property is owned by the Washington Garden Club. The historic 1870s church was the site of a movie scene starring Mathew McConnaughey in 2015. The adjacent rectory is the show location.  Exit 25, turn left towards Washington for 300 yards, turn left after the historic art gallery and the the WGC property is on the left in a few hundred feet.  The Old Schoolhouse Antique Mall is nearby.

Thanks to the Washington Garden Club for allowing the use of their facilities.  No charge = free.  You may come and go, but we will begin at 9 and continue to 2 or 3.

  1. Annette,

I am so excited about this bit of ADS History–to be a part of the first show of the forever first=show=of-the-season.
The workroom refrigerator is now open, with six perfect blooms of Rapture saved!
Life is good, and so is springtime.

Thank you and Ted and your garden club ladies for making this possible!!!

    Loyce McKenzie

I was just hating the idea of a spring with no daffodil show!!!

  2. I hope everyone understands that I originally wrote the announcement for
circulation to non daffodil folks and didn’t have time to rewrite for
daffnet. ( We gained a new ADS member as a result of the article anyway).
We LA folks hope that Loyce, Ted and Bea, Margaret, Larry, Jean, Mary
Price, Ralph, Jack and Jan, and all the other Mississippi daffodil
enthusiasts will support this effort. The show is designed to generate
enthusiasm for the new group. Thanks especially to Ted Snazelle for his
    assistance in so many ways.

Washington, LA, is just off Interstate 49, south of Alexandria, north of
Lafayette, and west of Baton Rouge. We do invite ADS members with an early
bloom season to come to this show and to win our ribbons. Start putting
those blooms in the fridge now!

    Annette P. Kahn
