Flowering to-day in Omagh

Greetings on a cold, dull, dank day brightened only by lovely climps of snow white Galanthus
These are pictures of Sel. 3366 Group from a lemon yellow N. bulbocodium from Morocco x N. hedraeanthus
in an effort to shorten stems for pot culture. In this area of low light intensity the Moroccan early flowering kinds
tend to need staking. Each flower is, as to be expected, slightly different but all are very short,
some flowering as they emerge from the soil and none are taller than 3 inches They have mostly retained the
approx. 45degree angle of growth of N. hedraeanthus and also the slightly purplish tinge to the spathe
which I find so typical of the species. All flowers, so fsr, are a  more pleasing and deeperyellow than the
N. hedraeanthus parent. Now to find if they will grow and increase???

  1. Brian …
I’m not a Bulbocodium fan in particular, but the profile photo of this seedling is  beautiful !

    All,
Another attempt to shorten stems, this time using N. hedraeanthus x N. cantabricus. Unlike the previous pictures
which showed that N. hedraeanthus had the major influence in form this time the N, cantabricus monophyllus
seems to be the major influence, maybe because i used a seedling nicknamed as ‘flat face’ – though more flowers are
yet to open and I hope for a wider range of forms.
