Here are some flowers from the garden today.
A nice clump from N. miniatus x N. viridflorus.
N. tazetta. An autumn blooming selection that we found in Crete about 10 years ago.
One of Wilf Hall’s mini tazettas, ‘IOT12’. This is its second year and I am hoping that it will always bloom at this time of the year.
Trevanian’s ‘Viriquilla’ also being turned around. This is the hybrid between ‘Limequilla’ and ‘Emerald Sea’. As both are tetraploids I wonder if it will breed. Guess where my N. obsoletus pollen is going?
Trevanian’s ‘Gold Step’ 10Y-Y. It is being turned around this year so I expect it to be later flowering next year.
Enjoy

Snow? Not here in WA state. We had 50 Deg F so I was able to pot up most of my bulbs I got at the Northern Daffodil Society Fall meeting. Thanks for the photos. It’s good to see flowers all year.
Harold,
The N. tazetta from Crete is very nice. With the long style it seems to be easy to cross it with N. obsoletus/ N. elegans. Where and when in autumn did you find it in Crete?

Theo: We found it near Elounda on the eastern part of the island. I can send you a bulb if you remind me next summer. It was flowering in the first week of November. Flowering time depends on when one starts watering. I will see if I can find some good N. obsoletus pollen and make the cross for you.

Harold,
Thank you for the details of the flowering time and location of N. tazetta in Crete. I shall remind you in summer for sending a bulb. I am also interested to get some seed grains of the cross N. tazetta x N. obsoletus .

Hi Harold,
Viriquilla is a very reliable seeder. It will do better for you than me I expect. I have never crossed it with Gold Step but I did get good seed from Gold Step x (Viriquilla x Virivest) this year. These sorts of crosses can be extremely vigorous and even yield some rare fertility.
I presume I’ve tried Viriquilla x tazetta but without much success. A big Virivest x tetraploid paperwhite tried to flower this year but it didn’t open in the cold and was discarded.
I’m envious of Wilf’s little tazettas.
