We are in Vanuatu at present and on a walk yesterday came across this beauty. Have found out that it is commonly known as the Eucharist or Amazon Lily and a native of tropical South America. It belongs to the Amaryllis family therefore related to daffodils. The flowers were about 100mm across and several to a stem.
I am sure that it is well known to many of you in warmer climates than New Zealand. It was such a gem to come across being so daffodil like!
regards to all,
Denise
Denise it looks beautiful. I must admit it is the first time I have seen or even heard of it.

Did you collect any pollen from this? It has a nice smooth well formed perianth and is wonderfully early!
