Dear daffnet readers,
I have dug some bulbs (fron raised beds newly made last year) this summer that were diseased, and I was not sure if it was basal rot or nematodes….what I was able to read about these problems – all mentioned "soft parts in the bulbs" – but mine were all very firm. I found Melissa Reading's postings interesting with the disease I found, because I have mostly hand weeded my beds, but have spot sprayed Roundup in some areas of the beds. I am relatively new to growing daffodils and would appreciate any advice as to what my bulbs' problem is and how to remedy it. I will avoid the Roundup in the future, and wondered how long it persisted in the soil. In closing, I have attached 2 photos of my diseased bulbs. (I hope I have sized them correctly for the posting to make them easy to view). Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Sincerely,
Sandy
Jason, what’s the control for bulb mites? I’ve had quite a few bulbs just dry up into crumbly shells this year. Unfortunately including some really nice seedlings.
