In Bloom over the Past Week

The first photo is from seed sent by my friend, the late Delia Bankhead. It is from Mary Lou Gripshover’s [(Northam x O. P.)

This is one of my seedlings and one of my first that used Dr. Leone Low’s excellent ‘Roundita’ as a seed parent. This exhibits improved width and decent substance. About 5″ tall and 35mm in diameter (a little over 1 1/4″).

This is Narcissus dubius ssp. micranthus which, here, for me, opens quite differently from N. dubius ssp. dubius. N. d. micranthus seems to show its proposed species ancestors from antiquity. Professor Fernandes determined that N. dubius arose from s diploid form of N. papyraceus crossed with a tetraploid form of N. assoanus. This many tens of thousands (if not millions!) of years ago. So long ago that it has stabilized as a true species and comes true from seed.
