Indianapolis Show Results, collections

The Purple Ribbon for best five stem collection went to Margaret Baird for a stunning division 3 collection. This was the first show I have been at this year where the Red White and Blue winner did not also receive the Purple.

Margaret’s collection contained, from left to right – Trueblood, Nordic Rim, Triple Crown, Rosevine, and Stardom. Rosevine, in particular, was a striking bloom.

The Red White and Blue winner was Gerald Knehans. The flowers included a several seedlings, and were Gasconade Lemonade 6 YYW-WWY, Mitsch ON 4-4A 2Y-P, Far Country x Quasar 2 W-YPP, Peggy macNeale 2W-GWW, and Reed 84-102-1 2 Y-Y.

I would be remiss if I did not include this blue ribbon entry from Margaret Baird. This division 2 collection was a finalist for the Purple Ribbon and included Outline, Winter Solstice, Martha Kermisz, Danger Zone, and Ice Dancer.

The Maroon Ribbon was won by Linda Wallpe with Helford Dawn, Intrigue, Avalon, Gipsy Queen, and Altun Ha. My apologies for the photograph. I suspect reverse bicolor flowers are the graduate course in daff photography.

Margaret Baird won the Intermediate Collection of 5 stems. At the Indianapolis show, this award also wins the Helen Trueblood Rosette. The flowers were Pink China, Brooke Ager, Bantam, Birthday Girl and Anvil Chorus.

That’s all for the photos.

Given the number of the blooms and the late season, next year’s show is rumored to be here:

Only kidding – that’s Hinkle Fieldhouse, one of the cathedrals of college basketball on the campus of Butler University, just a short drive south of Holliday Park.

I hope everyone enjoyed the photos, and I would encourage anyone from any of the later shows to post any photos they may have of their shows. Daff season isn’t over yet!

  1. Thank you Michael and Lisa for a stellar job of giving us a good look of the Indianapolis Daffodil Show.  You tackled a big job and did a great job!  I enjoyed the little bits of humor you tucked in here and there. Take your vitamins and rest up so you will be ready to do this again for next year’s show.

  2. Shall I assume you’ve taken another lesson from Tom Stettner and the awards that do not name a winner would be by Team Kuduk?  Thanks for sharing the Indy show with us all!

  3. Mike and Lisa, it’s good to see additional people posting pictures of the ADS award winning exhibits on Daffnet.  Yes, taking the photos and typing the names of all the flowers is work, but it all gets saved in the Daffnet archives.  With the search capabilities of the new Daffnet, people years from now will be able to retrieve the postings to see the exhibits in addition to reading about them in The Daffodil Journal.

  4. As with Kirby I really appreciate the show results coming through. We have heard very little from Europe this year and only from a few shows in the USA. The photos don’t have to match those of Kirby and Tom. They are in a league of their own.

Photos aren’t necessary either. I enjoy reading the results and the names of my friends who have done well. The names of winning cultivars are an added bonus and the photos the icing on the cake. Please help us to share your spring.

Thanks Michael and Lisa for adding to the list of reporters.

So good to see you at the Indy Show. :-)  Congratulations on your stellar Bozievich exhibit!
