The Magnificent 7;s , always popular , always fun ; a test of the stagers patience and skill , more options for discussion – 7 blooms .
How do you interpret ” to be judged on visual impact , rather than exhibition quality .”
Three very contrasting entries ,
Spud Brogden with his own seedlings , very well staged .
Reg and Rita Cull , 7 stems as required , about 16 flowers , all triandrus seedlings from Reg .
My doubles – 6 very clean white double seedlings and a very bright red / pink double .Poorly staged , – I lost patience and put a rubber band around them and plonked them in .
Our venue is an old function room under the grandstand at Feilding Racecourse , now no longer used .It has been converted to a smallbore rifle range , used weekly and also by the Central Dahlia Group . Very good kitchen facilities . A view from the shooting platform and the Premier Table .
A few other flowers that drew attention .
A yellow / pink split with an interesting history . At the 2008 N I National , Lower Hutt , the dinner tables had small daffodil table arrangements . Included in those at our table were two small and unknown yellow / pink splits .Both Reg and John Hunter took a bloom home – neither had a y / p and the pollen was fresh .Both made a cross and flowered seedlings from this opportune liaison . JAH 36 – 08 is Johns best from the cross .
A vase of 3 seedlings , JFM 05 – 73 , a well coloured 2 – o – o attracted John H and a few others – good colour saturation and fair form .
A very well coloured red / pink seedling from GLENFORD .
Thanks for posting these photographs John. It is always interesting to see what is being exhibited and winning in other parts of the country.
