Hello All,
Today I have visited a house in the north of Lancashire to see some June flowering daffodil! Yes I know it’s still May but these in a “Normal” season I’m told flower in June. They were planted around 1900 so this could have been within the time the lady of the house was planting daffodil everywhere. Over the last 5 years the house has been converted into flats and the owners are slowly restoring the gardens and as they clear more areas more and more daffodils appear. This 4W-W needs a name!
My initial thoughts were N. Daphne 4W-W 1914
But upon examination today some of the flowers today showed flecks of red deep inside segments, but I also found one that did not? Is this from it’s poet breeding?
I found a selection of 4W-W’s Daffseek and N. Snowball seems to show yellow but I can can anyone help me out.
Ian
I apologies for the format of the note but I can find no way of making it better.
Ian, try comparing it to what Daffseek lists as ‘Plenus’ which is essentially a late double poeticus.
Ian,
Snowball is the last daffodil blooms for me in Virginia . Generally there are 2 florets per stem. I agree with you the top isn’t Daphne… I would not rule out Snowball. I only wish the photos was bigger.
