The Oregon Daffodil Society held its second show this past weekend in Portland, Oregon at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. The show is held jointly with the American Rhododendron Society, Portland Chapter.
High winds, driving rain, light hail, and generally miserable weather was the pattern for the three days before the show as well as the show weekend. There were very infrequent sun breaks but intense periods of 40 mph winds which kept the bloom count to 773.
The overall show was a success with many outstandingly beautiful daffodils.
The Gold Ribbon was won by Elise Havens with a FLAWLESS, gorgeous bloom of ‘Classical Age’, 2Y-Y.
The Rose Ribbon for the Best Standard Seedling was won by Steve Vinisky with V03-103-8 = Double Play x Kiwi Solstice. The flower clearly measured Intermediate.
The White Ribbon for the Best Vase of Three Stems was won by Peggy Tignor with Bill Pannill’s great ‘Newport’ 2W-YOY
The Miniature Gold, White, and Rose Ribbon was won by Steve Vinisky for Vo2-57-1o = Brooke Ager x N. dubius ssp. micranthus.
The Best Intermediate in Show and Best Intermediate Vase of 3 was won by Margaret Pansegrau with a lovely set of ‘Pink China’. The Best Intermediate was the left bloom.
Will post the Balance tomorrow,
Steve
