JACOBS

Margot “Miggie” (Balch), 85, a lifelong resident of Indian Hill, died at her home following a fall August 1, 2014. She was the youngest of four daughters of the late Elizabeth LeBlond & DeWitt W. Balch. Her sisters, Elizabeth B. Hobson, Barbara B. Arnold, and Jeanne B. Ives all predeceased her. She graduated from The Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT and received her B.A. from Smith College in 1951. That October, she married the late Stuart H. Jacobs, a son of the late Frieda Heine and Carl M. Jacobs, Jr., who was a founder of the Cincinnati law firm Frost & Jacobs. Together they had four children: Frieda P. Jacobs (Fred Klein) of Lake Forest IL, Winifred Woodford (Gary Sosa) of Salt Lake City, James S. Jacobs of Bozeman MT, and Margot K. Jacobs of Stockholm, Sweden. They all survive, as do nine grandchildren and one infant great-grandchild. Miggie was immersed in horticulture her entire life. She was Chair of the Rowe Committee of the Stanley M. Rowe Arboretum, a former Trustee of Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum, Cincinnati Country Day School, and the Cincinnati Nature Center, in addition to serving on numerous committees of the Indian Hill Garden Club and Country Market, the Cincinnati Town & Country Garden Club, the Cincinnati Cactus & Succulent Society, the Camargo Club, and the Indian Hill Green Areas. She served as a horticulture judge for the Garden Club of America and as a daffodil judge for the American Daffodil Society. She loved her years as a nature leader at Cincinnati Country Day and the Cincinnati Nature Center. She was also a very successful bluebird nesting box protector. Miggie holds the unofficial all-time record for golf balls retrieved from the Camargo Club golf course. Funeral services Friday, August 15th at 10:30 am in the Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Cincinnati Nature Center, 4949 Tealtown Rd., Milford OH 45150. www.CincyNature.org. Arrangements by Gilligan Funeral Home
