A popular midweek show on the Central circuit , Rongotea had their Spring flower show on Thursday , 15 September .The wet season and a stormy week preceding , saw entries down just a little ; Judge Wayne Hughes , with assistance in the amateur and novice sections , faced 59 vases -x – 3 and 156 singles , – 322 stems with a little weather damage evident .
John Hollever , with a host of large blooms from a bulging , large , chiller , dominated the open section , Dennis Rodger was prominent in the amateurs with other grades well contested .At the head of the top table, one of the smallest flowers in the show was Wayne’s choice for Champion Bloom and was well received; a delightful small bloom, – very distinctive from the land of giants .
Wilfred Hall was surprised and delighted with his Champion Bloom , a red eyed poet , W P 124 ; he was very pleased with a quality seedling poet that is not as late as most and had survived some recent turbulent weather . Wilf has be seriously breeding poets for well over a decade , aiming primarily to advance their flowering season and also for an early, quality , full red centre . This is the third flowering ; 124’s first venture to the show world and a very welcome reward for this Kiwi daffodil icon .
