Russian Daffodil Site

This seems to me to be just a gardening site displaying different flower pictures and also some interesting articles as well. Among the daffodils they have lifted a few pictures from Daffseek, including one of my own.

I do not see any pricing – on any plant – it is not a catalog. Anyone can join.

Sent as an FYI.

Below is a WEB site hot link from a Russian WEB site.

I can’t read Russian but there is a Quantity select button and if a quantity is selected, it seems to give a price in Rubles(?). The site seems to have “borrowed” photos of just about every new Div. 11 and DaffNet posted Div. 11 seedlings from every hybridizer in the world.

Sent just because I thought you all might find it of interest!

google will automatically translate- the “toolbar” asked permission :o))
to do so- I think you are looking at the page views not a price, Steve-
I wonder if the site is appropriately using the photos- I see daffseek
on the top and photographer noted on the bottom- does that satisfy
the requirements to borrow a photo?

Since Daffseek started we have had many permission requests for photos primarily by members of local daffodil societies. Others requests came from people writing articles for magazines and a variety of uses. We only give permission if the original photographer agrees. We have been pleased that so many people have requested the photos rather than just using them. Large search companies such as Google honor copyrights and will not use our photos if they come directly from Daffseek. Some of our photos are on http://images.google.com/ but they number very few and we believe they came from the other sites that requested photos.

The ADS does have the services of attorneys who could represent us in any copyright dispute.  And the ADS might take on an organization, that violates our copyrights, at some point in the future. I suspect the situation would have to be much more serious than that of the Russian site photos before the ADS Board of Directors would choose to pursue legal action.

Two years ago I found a Russian forum that discussed daffodils and some of their members had links to photos in Daffseek. I thought that was very interesting and would love to do a Russian translation for Daffseek. I quote “Russian is the 8th most spoken language in the world by number of native speakers and the 4th by total number of speakers” on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_language. Of course for Daffseek we are looking for “readers”. Like our translation volunteers http://daffseek.org/who/translators.php for the other Daffseek languages, I need a native speaker or writer to do the translation. So sometime in the future we can invite Russians to see actual Daffseek daffodil data and photos instead of other sites.

My interest is in building up interest in Daffseek and Daffnet. The views I express here are my own and I certainly do not represent the ADS for any legal issues or policies.
