The TITAHI BAY Horticultural Society is the first spring show for growers in the southern North Island , particularly Wellington and Kapiti / Horowhenua growers . Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August are early season dates , even in a normal season ; spring 2015 was running at least a week late . However a good number of exhibitors attended ; not with a big number or range of flowers but certainly enough to make a very colourful display for a very good public attendance. I took my flowers down to stage on the Friday evening and was not there for the judging on Saturday.
Thanks to Margaret Seconi and Wilfred Hall for the results and photos , also for staging blooms for John Hollever that I had brought down. When I left late Friday evening , I had selected my winner from the flowers then present ; it was a large and very smooth Hollever 2Y – Y seedling and I thought it would take some beating .Wellington grower Peter Tijsen staged his flowers Saturday morning ; they were an impressive big handful and included the Champion Bloom , a large and well coloured Flashdance .This is a very useful John Hunter registration with a good show record, particularly when there are few division 3 flowers early season.
Champion Bloom, 3Y – YR FLASHDANCE , exhib Peter Tijsen.
Reserve Champion 2Y – Y sdlg raiser and exhib John Hollever .
Premier Multibloom CABRINI Peter Tijsen
Best Vase 3 HEAMOOR , Dennis Rodgers .
Amateur Premier 3W – YO ANTJE , Dennis Rodgers .ANTJE is a very useful Div 3 smallcup , raised by Peter Tijsen and named for his Dutch mother .When more widely distributed I,m sure this flower will prove very useful at arly season shows .
More Show results coming .
John, thank you for telling us about the Titahi Show and for posting these photos. ‘Antje’ is a beautiful flower!
