Brian Duncan has given us so many fine flowers , across all divisions and over several decades .
He has named several after notable , perhaps surprise , sports victories that were , to many , upset results .
The beautiful TRIPLE CROWN 3Y – YO was to celebrate his Irish rugby football team winning the European rugby ” triple Crown .” . GREEK SURPRISE 4W – Y is an excellent exhibition double , also with a fine show record , was named to celebrate the Greek soccer , football , surprise win in the very prestigious European Cup football competition .
I am sure you must have one more very good flower to register Brian , after a very notable sports upset victory about 12 days ago . It was was in Chicago ; but not the very celebrated Chicago Cubs baseball World Series victory , It was Brian,s beloved Irish Rugby team , beating our NZ ALL BLACKS , 40 – – 29 . It was the first Irish victory over the All Blacks in 111 years .
Much surprise and disappointment over here , they are still celebrating in Dublin , where there will be a rematch this Sunday , NZ time .
You deserve the bragging rights Brian and we have great respect for your flowers and increased respect for your rugby team over here .
There were quite a few N Z supporters in Chicago, mostly on organised tour parties that will also take in the European leg of the tour . There was also a Kiwi daffodil connection at the game ; Dr Donald Hunter , scientist son of John and Marie from Nelson , was in Chicago on business and manage to get a spare ticket from two Irishmen he had met . A great occasion that he will never forget , and he reported Chicago was certainly celebrating the sports victories – the Cubs and the Irish .
