VDS Show Richmond VA

Hi

We had a nice daffodil show at the Lewis Ginter Garden on Saturday March 31 and Sunday April 1.  The Judging was done on March 31.  There were 920 Stems and 40 Exhibitors according to Jennifer Potter.

Taking pictures was very had for me as a diabetic after going past lunch time for two hours and then having to go get the daffodils and bring them myself to the place for photography.  However, here goes:

Gold ribbon was Lemon Silk 6YYW-W exhibited by Karen Cogar.  I took four pictures and could not get the color right for the gorgeous daffodil.

The white ribbon was Banker 2Y-O exhibited by Clay & Fran Higgins

The silver ribbon was won by Clay & Fran Higgins.  Number unknown.  Told by Ship Ford that I had won it.  I was told that Janet Hickman was entering a devastating Bozie Award so I pulled by Bozievich Award and entered them into single stems. No bozie was entered.  I think each one of the 12 won their class.  That, I believe is what did it.

Most interesting daffodil entered was Tete-e-Tete Gone Wild. :-)  A fun entry.

The Purple Ribbon  was the American Red white and Blue Collection of five, andwas won by Karen  Cogar:

Back row: Great Gatsby-Pqnnil; Geometrics-Dubose; Sonar-Havens.  The two in Front are Herman-Reed and Tuscarora-W. Bender.

I will add another post with some more winners.

The Cary Quinn Award was Exihibited by Clay & Fran Higgins, using all Clay’s Seedlings. At least five divisions represented.  Nothing in this Quinn has been named.  I have a list if anyone wants it.  However, it is just a list of number.

I’m very pleased.

Clay

Three of the daffodils on the front row were from my attempts at breeding miniatures.  The one that is the 4th from the left was Terminator X N. cordubensis 2Y-O.  It was only 51mm but too large for a miniature. The 2nd and 3rd from the right were also attempts at miniatures Celestial Fire x N. cordubensis, and a near look alike Holme Fen X N. cordubensis.  Both Div 7 and both 52 & 53 MM.
