I know Tom and Kirby will be posting photos of the winning flowers at the ADS convention, but you may be interested in some other awards from the convention.
The highest honors the ADS confers on people are the Gold Medal for pre-eminent work and advancement of the daffodil, and the Silver Medal for service to the ADS.
The recipient of the ADS Silver Medal this year was Keith Kridler. After the cheers and standing ovation subsided, all Keith could say was that it may be the first time he was speechless!
Though the Gold Medal winner, John Hunter of New Zealand, wasn’t present, the cheers were just as loud! John, as you know bred many beautiful flowers, and is the breeder of ‘Emerald Sea’, which is leading to so many new autumn-blooming flowers.
I know ADS President Kathy Welsh has already sent John a congratulatory email so you won’t be ruining the surprise if you want to do the same. :-)
