Murphys show – Gold Ribbon winner

As Melissa Reading posted earlier today, we had some unusual weather at the Murphys, California show this weekend. It started snowing Friday evening with a power outage at about 8 pm, the latter putting a stop to staging. It did not freeze over night, so the snow did not turn to ice; there was just a couple inches of slush. I supposed the one advantage was that we were able to get a good night’s sleep by going to bed early — there isn’t much else you can do in a motel room that doesn’t have electricity (the entire town of Murphys was blacked out). With some scrambling, we did put on a show although we were a bit behind schedule. I thought there was a fairly good crowed to see the show Saturday despite the rain during the day and the two inches of snow the night before. Sunday morning it started snowing again. I was slipping and sliding on the drive from town to the winery (show venue), and our show chairman decided so few of the public would come that we took the show down Sunday morning so that we daffodil people could leave before the roads got worse. I think it had snowed about three inches by the time I left at noon.
I didn’t get photos of all the ADS award winners; I’m missing the miniature container award, Little Oliver exhibited by Bob Spotts and the standard container award, Kokopelli exhibited by yours truly. But I think I got all the rest. I’ll post them in the order in which I took them. First is the Gold Ribbon winner, the best standard daffodil in the show, Sunset Sonata 2Y-YOO exhibited by Melissa Reading. This was also the Intermediate Ribbon winner for best intermediate daffodil in the show.
