Hello All,
We are delighted that Len Olive has received the George Tarry Award. Len is
a very good friend and there is no doubt that he has been a great worker for
daffodils. Many years ago Len and his wife, Joy, came to New Zealand to
take in the daffodil season. They stayed with us and Len helped me to
select seedlings. I had completed marking up a batch of red cups and had
moved on further down the bed of seedlings. Len quietly enquired why I had
not marked one of the red cups. I had a look and immediately marked it. It
has proved to be one of my best 2YR’s and recently took best bloom at
Livermore Show in California adding to its stellar performance on the show
bench which is all down to Len’s eye for a good bloom. I was going to name
it for Len but somehow Cameo Len didn’t sound quite right so it became Cameo
Joy after his wife.
So congratulations Len (and Joy) on deservedly receiving the Tarry Award.
George would have approved – he liked workers!
