Intermediate 1W-P – In flower 3/11

This is V02-41-2 which is V96-21-2 =(Rosewood x Pink Silk) x Camborn. The flower diameter is right at 66 mm or a little over 2 1/2 inches. The flower height is about 6 1/2″. It is now the earliest pink trumpet to flower here. It is in flower now with the early Miniature yellow trumpets. It is a SEASON 1 flower. The peachy pink true trumpet loses the yellowish component as the flower ages.’Dear Me’, ‘My Word’, and K.J. Heazlewood’s much admired ‘Rosewood’ are often the earliest pinks open here.’Rosewood’ measures a clear trumpet and is itself a seedling from ‘My Word’ I crossed ‘Rosewood’ with the later flowering ‘Pink Silk’ once again using stored frozen pollen. The -2 Selected parent above was crossed with Alec Gray’s (Named and Registered by friend Delia Bankhead) splendid Miniature ‘Camborn’.

I think this is terrific early pink Intermediate trumpet. (OK, alright…. sort of peachy, pinky, yellowish, pinkish) Other early “season starting indicators” here like ‘Cabachon’ or ‘Perfect Spring’ have not even goosenecked out in the main fields yet this flower is at peak bloom. It has most certainly been subject to freezing temperatures, snow, etc. when it was in bud the last two weeks. It has nice overall quality for this early of a flower.

In case you can’t tell, I like this one a lot.

  1. There will be an Intermediate size, bright pink trumpet in the ADS auction this year. Bred from Dear Me which, as Steve says, flowers very early. Get your cheque books out as the breeding potential of ‘Pinky Bar’ looks promising. And as a bonus the first twelve bidders will get a real pinky bar to munch on as they bid even higher.
