Spotted daffodil

A local daffodil grower in Nashville TN is wondering what could have caused these spots on her daffodil. I thought it might be poisons or chemicals, but she said nothing has been sprayed near the daffs. Any thoughts?

  1. Those could be fungal or bacterial infections, freeze damage caused by a wetted water droplet freezing through the cell walls or the weirdest one I have seen is droplets of water being a magnifying lens burning the cup tissue. If you have a high power hand lens you will either see the bacterial rot sludge, fungal hyphae broken epithelial(skin) cells from the freeze or perfectly fine cells just a different color.

  2. Thank you for your reply, Michael. I have forwarded it to the grower of the flower.

  3. I agree with Mike a visiting insect may have visited and left a deposit of
fungus or the spots could be bite marks again leaving deposits.
